LITEN FINE JEWELRY CARE GUIDE
All Liten Fine jewelry is handcrafted utilizing quality materials and extensive attention to detail. While we make every effort to create your cherished pieces to last a lifetime, fine jewelry will always be delicate in nature and should be treated as such. Please reference the tips below on how to care for your newfound treasures to ensure they stand the test of time.
When NOT To Wear Your Liten Jewelry
We recommend always taking your jewelry off while sleeping, cleaning, exercising, swimming, and showering. It is helpful to keep your pieces in a designated home, such as a covered cloth lined ring dish or box for example. If your jewelry has its own safe place, it’s less likely to be lost and stored away from heat and moisture.
Checking For Loose Stones
We recommend checking your diamond and gemstone jewelry regularly for loose stones. This can be done professionally every 4-6 months and at home more often. Always perform this task before cleaning your jewelry. Once a month or so, simply hold the piece by your ear and tap your finger on the side of the setting to listen for any movement of stones tapping against the metal. You can also use a fine needle or safety pin to tap each stone. If any loose stones are detected, please refrain from wear and call us immediately. We can tighten the stones on your ring and get it back to looking new. Also, if you ever find a prong that is snagging on clothing, please discontinue wear and call us. This could indicate a loose setting and should be addressed before wearing or cleaning.
Precious Metals
All Liten jewelry is made of solid gold or platinum, preventing any tarnish or fading that may result in silver and plated jewelry. Any discoloration can be corrected by using a soft cloth. We recommend gentle dish soap, warm water, and an ultra-fine tooth brush to clean more intricate gold and platinum pieces such as chains and necklaces.
Diamond Jewelry Care
Diamonds are the strongest gemstone on earth, therefore ideal for everyday wear. They can also withstand frequent cleaning. After checking for loose stones, we suggest giving your diamond jewelry a warm bath with a gentle dish soap for about 10 minutes. Use a baby soft toothbrush to gently swipe away any remaining debris. Rinse in a separate bowl of cool clean water and dry with a lint free towel. We recommend letting is professionally clean and check the integrity of your jewelry settings twice per year.
Gemstone Jewelry Care
Gemstones are much softer than diamonds and require extra care when cleaning. Sapphires, rubies, emeralds, tanzanite, tourmaline, opals, and pearls should be wiped clean daily with a soft, lint-free 100% cotton cloth. We recommend having your gemstone jewelry professionally cleaned to avoid any abrasions due to their delicate nature. In addition, perfumes, lotions, makeup and hair products can build up on jewelry, dulling their appearance and potentially causing abrasions to certain precious gems such as opals and pearls.
Jewelry Insurance
We encourage having an insurance policy on all your precious jewelry. While we stand by the craftsmanship of your Liten jewelry, accidents can happen and having this peace of mind in case of incident is well worth it. Taking clear photographs of your jewelry and labeling each photo is a great inventory system and will be beneficial in the event that you have to file an insurance claim.
